Grae Buck

Major League Fishing Pro Angler

After graduating college in 2012, Grae worked as an Aquatic Biologist while casually fishing in tournaments on weekends. In 2015, Grae won the BFL Regional to qualify for the BFL All-American in 2016. In 2016, Grae qualified through the point standings of the FLW Northern Costa Series to make the FLW Pro Circuit, which enabled him to quit his day job. Grae has been a professional angler ever since and is currently in his 4th season of the FLW Pro Circuit. Significantly, Grae won the 2019 BASS Open on Oneida Lake to qualify to fish the 2020 Bassmaster Classic on Lake Guntersville where he had a top 20 finish. After witnessing many of his professional angler friends increase their practice time and their fishing capabilities as a result of RELiON batteries, Grae decided to step up his game and make the switch from lead-acid batteries to more reliable and lightweight RELiON lithium batteries.

Grae’s power system includes:

Grae’s Basscat Cougar boat uses three long-lasting, energy-dense RELiON RB100 batteries to power his trolling motor. His boat also uses one robust RELiON RB100-HP battery for cranking as well as to power live wells, four Lowrance HDS LIVE 12 fishfinders/chart plotters, one HydroWave, an Aqua-Vu underwater camera, and all other electronics on his boat.

Why Grae switched to lithium:

“I grew tired of having to carry around a spare set of heavy, lead-acid batteries in my boat, making sure to always monitor my energy use, and then swapping the dead lead acid batteries out with a second set during the day. I’ve been able to remove at least one hundred pounds from my boat after switching to much lighter lithium batteries. As a result, my boat is faster, I can easily navigate shallower waters and can carry more tackle.”

Why Grae chose RELiON:

“I did a ton of research during the offseason and discovered that lead-acid batteries pale in comparison to RELiON lithium batteries, particularly when it comes to weight and long-lasting power, which are both crucial for professional bass fishermen like myself. I also personally knew several other professional anglers who have been using RELiON batteries for years and they swore by them. Lastly, and given that I majored in Environmental Science in college, I love that RELiON gives back to the environment, for example, by being part of the 1% for the Planet initiative and donating to Defenders of the Wild and other environmental-based organizations.”

How Grae’s lithium system helped him challenge his limits:

“I’m now able to spend much more time out on the water practicing every day. I usually practice all day, from sun up to sundown. It’s great to be able to maximize my practice time without having to worry about whether I’ll run out of power and have to head back early like I used to with unreliable lead-acid batteries. I feel even more prepared for my tournaments now that I can practice more.”

What Grae loves most about bass fishing:

“I’ve always loved being in nature and out on the water amongst wildlife, so spending all day on the water fishing is a dream come true. I also love the constant challenge of bass fishing, as every day is unique.”

Grae’s advice for people considering switching to lithium batteries:

“It’s a no brainer, as they’re well worth the investment for the peace of mind. With my much lighter and longer-lasting RELiON lithium batteries, the sky’s the limit when it comes to what I can accomplish out on the water.”
