Hi! I’m Simon. For today’s Tech Tuesday, we'll cover our high performance, or HP, line of batteries. HP in our model names refers to the battery's capability to deliver a burst of high current for a short period. These would be current requirements typically necessary to start a boat, generator motor, or air conditioning compressor. High performance currents are a feature unique to the RELiON HP line of batteries that many of our competitors do not offer.

Imagine you’re on an extended trip or have adopted a permanent van life lifestyle that depends on batteries as your primary source of power. You don’t want to constantly monitor your batteries’ capacity and worry about when to start your generator. One popular use of our HP series of batteries is coupling with a generator and an automatic generator start, AGS. An AGS monitors your batteries and when a predetermined state of charge is reached, will tell your generator to turn on so your batteries may begin charging. You don’t have to worry about waking up in the morning to a dead battery because you forgot to charge them or accidentally fell asleep with an appliance on.

RELiON’s HP series of batteries are great when combined with our standard 12V batteries in marine applications as well. A trolling motor is used on a bass boat to provide quiet and efficient secondary propulsion for when anglers need to hold position against a current or quietly navigate an area trying to get a fish to bite. RELiON’s HP series batteries can be hooked in parallel with other standard 12V models to provide enough power to run an electric trolling motor, while the HP model provides enough amps to crank the boat's gasoline-powered motor. One unique feature is that even while providing the peak 800-amp output, the batteries’ voltage will remain above 10 volts, which is enough to keep other marine electronics, like depth gauges and fish finders, powered. Rebooting could take three or more minutes that competitive anglers can’t afford during a tournament.

Our HP series batteries are extremely versatile and if one by itself doesn’t have enough capacity can be hooked with other HP or standard RELiON 12V batteries in parallel. Unfortunately, the HP series cannot be hooked in series. Our RB100-HP and RB300-HP will provide 800 peak amps even when your battery is at a 25% state of charge. They are so dependable they are used in emergency medical, fire, and law enforcement vehicles to power a house load and assist cranking if necessary.
